Advanced CNG Vehicle Troubleshooting, Diagnosis, & Repair

This is a certificate course for professional fleet and independent automotive technicians who will be diagnosing and repairing electric vehicles in a commercial shop setting. "Advanced CNG Operation & Maintenance" is a pre-requisite. The course is presented in three one-day (8 hr.) modules over three consecutive weeks, and includes classroom lecture on theory as well as hands-on lab time in the shop on vehicles typical of those found in commercial use.

Topics include:
  • Define the basic operation of CNG systems
  • Explain the necessary steps for diagnosing a CNG vehicle
  • Establish techniques for the use of scan tools as applicable to CNG vehicles
  • Prepare a "Diagnostic Plan" for effective troubleshooting
  • Describe the onboard self-test and diagnostic capabilities of various manufacturers' vehicle control systems.
  • Explain the development of onboard diagnostics (OBD) and system self-tests
  • Describe scan tool data available from various vehicles; interpret and analyze the information.
  • Describe On Board Diagnostics Generation II (OBDII)
  • Prepare a vehicle for storage
